Bangladeshi National Jailed in UP for Forged Indian Passport, Illegal Land Deal
A special court in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia has sentenced a Bangladeshi national to three years’ imprisonment for allegedly obtaining forged Indian identity documents, securing an Indian passport through fraudulent means, and illegally registering land in West Bengal, police said on Tuesday.
Special Judge Ramkripal of the Ballia court on Monday convicted Abdul Amin and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 , Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh said.
According to investigators, Amin originally hailed from a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh , and had allegedly entered India illegally before creating a fake identity network with the help of local associates in Ballia.
The case was registered on March 14, 2023 , at Kotwali police station based on a complaint filed by Inspector Bharat Bhushan Tiwari of the ATS Varanasi unit . The FIR invoked provisions related to forgery, cheating, and the Foreigners Act.
Probe agencies alleged that Amin forged his Indian identity by fraudulently obtaining documents such as Aadhaar and residence-related records with the assistance of local facilitators. Using these forged credentials, he allegedly secured an Indian passport and later travelled twice each to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia .
Investigators said the accused also used the fake identity documents to illegally register a piece of land in Purushottampur in West Bengal’s Hooghly district .
Police said Amin came under the radar during an Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) verification drive targeting suspicious foreign nationals and forged identity document networks. During interrogation and document verification, officials reportedly found discrepancies in his nationality records, travel history, and supporting identity papers.
According to prosecution sources, investigators recovered forged documents, passport records, travel details, and land registration papers , which were presented as evidence before the court. Following the investigation, police filed a chargesheet, leading to his conviction.
