Bangkok Bar Fire Death Toll Climbs to 30 as Probe Focuses on Safety Lapses

The death toll from the devastating fire at Bangkok's Rong Beer Na Ladprao music bar has risen to 30 , while more than 70 people remain hospitalised , including 24 in critical condition , Thai authorities said on Tuesday. The incident is now considered Bangkok's deadliest entertainment venue fire in 17 years , prompting a sweeping investigation into possible safety violations and emergency preparedness.

The blaze erupted shortly before midnight on Sunday at the popular music bar in Bangkok's Chatuchak district , where hundreds of patrons are believed to have been gathered. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control within about 30 minutes , but the intense flames and thick smoke caused widespread casualties.

Police said many of the victims were found trapped inside windowless bathrooms , where they had apparently sought shelter from the rapidly spreading fire. Investigators believe the victims were overcome by smoke after becoming unable to escape.

Authorities are examining the cause of the fire , with a possible electrical short circuit involving a ceiling-mounted air-conditioning unit emerging as one of the leading theories.
