Balkampet Yellamma temple to be developed under PRASAD scheme

The Union government has approved major development works at the Balkampet Renuka Yellamma Temple under the PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme. The project, aimed at improving facilities for devotees, has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹4.2 crore, with construction work now underway.

Located in Sanathnagar, Secunderabad, the well-known Balkampet Yellamma Temple will soon see the construction of a new annadanam (free meal) complex along with several modern amenities. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy announced the approval through a post on X, stating that the project has been designed with a focus on pilgrim comfort, safety, and environmental sustainability.

As part of the development, spacious annadanam halls will be built on the first and second floors, enabling the temple to serve clean and organised meals to hundreds of devotees every day. A modern cafeteria or canteen will be set up on the third floor.

The project also includes separate bio-toilets for men and women, parking facilities at the stilt level, seating arrangements, and waiting areas for devotees. Environment-friendly features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and stormwater drainage will be introduced.

To ensure safety and convenience, the temple complex will be equipped with an automatic fire alarm system, overhead water tanks, drinking water facilities, and an efficient waste management system. Clear signage and CCTV surveillance will be installed across the premises to enhance security and ease of movement.

These upgrades are expected to create a more comfortable and spiritually enriching experience for devotees visiting the temple. The project is also likely to boost local tourism and support the regional economy. Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment, the minister said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government continues to focus on strengthening infrastructure at religious and pilgrimage centres across the country.
