
Bail Granted to Comedian Anudeep in Case Over Offensive Remarks on Pawan Kalyan
A local court in Kakinada on Friday granted bail to stand-up comedian Anudeep Kattikala, who is facing allegations of making derogatory remarks against Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and his family members.
According to police , the 30-year-old Hyderabad-based comedian performed at a stand-up show in Bengaluru on April 8 , where he allegedly made personal and objectionable comments targeting Pawan Kalyan and his niece, actress Niharika Konidela. The remarks, considered offensive and defamatory , soon went viral on social media , triggering widespread criticism and complaints.
Acting on these complaints, the Kakinada One Town police registered a case against the comedian. Authorities stated that the content of the remarks prima facie appeared to damage the reputation of the individuals involved. The case was booked under Sections 356(2) , 353(2) , and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
Following the registration of the case, Anudeep was reportedly not immediately traceable. Using technical evidence, police tracked his location to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, where he was staying with his father. A police team reached the location and served him notices on April 14 .
Subsequently, the comedian appeared before Kakinada police on April 16 and surrendered . He was taken into custody for questioning and later produced before the court.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted him bail on a personal bond of ₹10,000 .
