Badminton star donates 14.5 litres of breast milk
Champion badminton player Jwala Gutta has gone beyond the sports arena to save lives. She recently donated 14,500 ml (14.5 litres) of breast milk to help premature and critically ill babies whose mothers face difficulties in producing enough milk.
Through the Chennai-based Amirtham Foundation, Jwala donated 70 packets of breast milk to the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children (ICH) in Egmore, Chennai. Her generous act is expected to give these vulnerable infants a strong start in life.
Jwala’s selfless contribution has earned widespread praise. The Amirtham Foundation celebrated her donation on social media, saying, “Champions are not only made in stadiums but also in milk banks.”
Sharing her thoughts on X, Jwala wrote, “Breast milk saves lives. For premature and sick babies, donor milk can be life-changing. If you are able to donate, you could be a hero to a family in need.”
The Amirtham Foundation, which has over 5,000 lactating mothers as members, expressed happiness at welcoming Jwala as a new donor. Her initiative highlights how athletes can make a meaningful difference beyond their sport, inspiring others to contribute to saving newborn lives.
