Virat Kohli made a statement in his return to T20 cricket, scoring 69 off 38 balls , including five sixes , to lead RCB to a six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL opener at the Chinnaswamy Stadium .

The 37-year-old captain revealed that periodic breaks from the game have been key to staying mentally fresh and avoiding burnout . “With the kind of schedule I’ve had over the last 15 years, the risk was always getting burnt out rather than undercooked. These breaks helped me immensely. I stay fresh, I stay excited ,” Kohli said.

He stressed that he never returns unless fully prepared. “Whenever I come back to play, it’s at 120 percent . I’m not coming back underprepared. The extra rest helps me mentally refresh .” For Kohli, it’s about performing for the team, not just holding a spot.

Despite a ten-month gap from T20 cricket, Kohli credited recent white-ball outings for keeping him in rhythm . “The last T20 I played was the final last year , but my performances in the one-day series helped maintain momentum. My fitness work behind the scenes ensured things came together tonight,” he said.

Kohli’s return shows that strategic rest, mental freshness, and preparation can be as vital as skill and technique. For RCB fans, it was a perfect opener, dominance, skill, and the presence of their captain.
