Aware app to be launched soon in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh is preparing to roll out the Aware mobile application, a unified platform designed to deliver real-time information and citizen services across 42 government departments. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the initiative at the Real-Time Governance Centre on Monday and instructed officials to prioritise efficiency, transparency and citizen satisfaction across all levels of administration.

During the review, the Chief Minister emphasised that municipalities, corporations and rural bodies must take up works only after gauging public needs. He directed officials to ensure that even employment guarantee works follow village-approval norms. Ministers and public representatives were asked to intensify field visits so people clearly understand government initiatives.

Highlighting the importance of technology-driven governance, Chandrababu said departments should strengthen their capabilities, integrate fully with the state’s data lake and rely on data-based decision-making. Capacity-building programmes will be expanded across all 175 constituencies to ensure better delivery of services.

The Chief Minister directed officials to launch the Aware app soon for public use. The platform will offer continuous updates on 42 categories including weather alerts, disaster warnings and other real-time information. He stressed the need to improve bandwidth connectivity in remote regions and ensure regular monitoring of water quality and sanitation in welfare hostels through a dedicated app already in use.

The Aware app functions as a combined governance and early-warning platform. Across India, similar apps fall under two categories:

1. All-in-one citizen service and governance apps

These apps centralise services from multiple departments, similar to the multi-sector approach of Aware.

• UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance): Offers hundreds of central and state services including bill payments, certificates, PF services and IMD weather updates.

• MyGov (My Government): Facilitates citizen participation through discussions, polls and feedback mechanisms.

• MeeSeva (AP/Telangana): A single-entry portal for certificates, land records, licences and other G2C/G2B services.

• PGRS (Public Grievance Redressal System) Citizen Feedback (AP): Collects unbiased citizen feedback on grievances, aligning with AP’s service improvement goals.

2. Specialised early-warning and weather apps

These align with Aware’s disaster-alert functions.

• Mausam (IMD): Provides weather observations, forecasts and radar data.

• Damini IITM (Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology) : Issues lightning alerts within a specified range.

• SACHET NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority): Offers geo-targeted early warnings for natural and man-made disasters.

In essence, Aware acts as Andhra Pradesh’s own integrated RTG-based version of UMANG combined with advanced early-warning capabilities similar to India Meteorological Department (IMD’s) systems.
