Auto driver arrested in Nizamabad for displaying objectionable image on auto-rickshaw

The Nizamabad Traffic Police on Friday arrested an auto-rickshaw driver for allegedly displaying an objectionable image on the back of his vehicle, which authorities said violated traffic rules and could mislead the public.

The accused has been identified as Sai Kiran, a resident of Edapally. Police said the image displayed on the rear side of the auto-rickshaw featured a photograph of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi holding a firearm, alongside visuals of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Mastan Ali and Traffic Circle Inspector Prasad.

According to police officials, the display came to their notice during routine monitoring, following which immediate action was taken. The accused was arrested within 12 hours of the incident being noticed, reflecting swift response by the traffic police.

ACP Mastan Ali said the accused was booked for violating traffic regulations and for displaying inappropriate and misleading material on a public vehicle.

“Such displays are unacceptable and can create confusion among the public. Strict action will be taken against those violating the law,” he said.

Police said they were investigating the circumstances under which the image was displayed, including whether it was done knowingly by the driver or affixed during vehicle decoration. No conclusions have been drawn regarding the intent so far, officials clarified.

The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is under way to determine if additional legal provisions apply.

Police also cautioned vehicle owners against displaying objectionable, misleading or unauthorised images on vehicles, warning that such acts could attract legal action.
