Australia’s NSW Premier Chris Minns To Visit India, Trade And Investment In Focus
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns will lead an official delegation to India from August 31 to September 3, making India his first overseas destination since becoming premier in 2023. The visit will focus on trade, investment, education and stronger ties with the Indian community.
Minns and NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey will travel to New Delhi and Mumbai for meetings with government and business leaders. The delegation will look for new opportunities in education, research, clean energy, critical minerals, technology, tourism, agri-food and advanced industries.
The visit comes as economic ties between NSW and India continue to grow. The two sides traded AUD 6.87 billion (USD 4.86 billion) in goods in 2024-25, making India one of NSW's key trading partners.
The ties go beyond business. Around 174,000 Indian visitors travelled to NSW in the year to March 2026, spending about AUD 600 million and staying 8.5 million nights. More than 28,000 Indian students are also studying in the state.
Minns said he was proud that India would be his first overseas visit as premier and said the trip reflected the importance of the relationship and the contribution of the Indian community to NSW.
“India is one of the world's fastest-growing major economies and an increasingly important partner for NSW,” Minns said, adding that the state wants more trade, investment, tourists and opportunities for its businesses.
The Mumbai leg will also build on the NSW-Maharashtra sister-state relationship, which began in 2012. It covers areas such as skills training, agriculture, water management and waste treatment.
After the India visit, Minns will travel to Kathmandu on September 4-5, while Mookhey will continue to Bengaluru for meetings focused on trade, investment and technology. Deputy Premier Prue Car will serve as acting premier while Minns is overseas.
