The Australian Open 2026 has reached a gripping phase, with the men’s and women’s semifinal line-ups finalized after dramatic quarterfinal battles marked by injuries, upsets, and dominant displays. With a blend of legends, defending champions, and first-time contenders still in the hunt, the tournament is heading toward a spectacular finish.

In the men’s singles , the spotlight firmly falls on a blockbuster semifinal between Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner . Djokovic entered his 13th Australian Open semifinal in dramatic circumstances after Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti retired hurt. Musetti had taken control early, winning the first two sets 6-4, 6-3 , and pushing Djokovic to the edge of elimination before suffering an injury in the third set. The Serbian star acknowledged he was close to defeat, praising Musetti’s level. While the result sends him through, the nature of the win raises questions about match rhythm ahead of a high-intensity clash.

Awaiting him is defending champion Jannik Sinner , who looked in complete command during a straight-sets victory over Ben Shelton ( 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 ). Sinner’s aggressive baseline play and sharp finishing at the net have now stretched his 19-match unbeaten run at the Australian Open, underlining his title credentials.

The other men’s semifinal features Spain’s young sensation Carlos Alcaraz against Germany’s Alexander Zverev . Alcaraz’s explosive movement and fearless shot-making will collide with Zverev’s power and experience, completing a formidable semifinal lineup of Djokovic, Sinner, Alcaraz, and Zverev .

The women’s tournament has delivered equal drama. Elena Rybakina produced one of the biggest upsets by eliminating World No. 2 Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-1 , overpowering her with big serves and relentless hitting. Rybakina arrives in the semifinals in red-hot form, having won 18 of her last 19 matches . She will face American star Jessica Pegula , who advanced to her first Australian Open semifinal after defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 7-6(1) . Pegula’s consistency stands out she has not dropped a set in the tournament.

In the other semifinal, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka takes on Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina , setting up a classic battle between Sabalenka’s power game and Svitolina’s defensive resilience.

Importantly for the schedule, the women’s semifinals are being played today , making them a central highlight for the next day’s edition. The men’s semifinals follow tomorrow, headlined by the much-anticipated Djokovic vs Sinner showdown.

With legends chasing history, defending champions guarding their crowns, and challengers sensing opportunity, the Australian Open semifinals promise elite tennis and high drama on both sides of the draw.
