Australia fined 10% for slow over-rate vs India

The Australian women’s cricket team was fined 10 per cent of its match fee on Friday for maintaining a slow over-rate in the second One Day International against India at Mullanpur, Chandigarh. The match, which India won by a commanding 102 runs, marked Australia’s heaviest defeat in terms of runs in the series so far.

The sanction was imposed by GS Lakshmi of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees after Australia was found to be two overs short of the required rate, even after accounting for time allowances. According to the ICC, under Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over not completed within the allotted time.

Australia’s captain, Alyssa Healy, admitted the offence and accepted the penalty, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. The slow over-rate charge was confirmed by on-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Janani Narayanan, third umpire Lauren Agenbag, and fourth umpire Gayathri Venugopalan.
