The YSR Congress Party has accused the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh of projecting an image of austerity while allegedly following a contrasting approach in practice, saying governance is being overshadowed by publicity-driven politics .

The party said the government’s emphasis on cost-saving measures and environmental awareness campaigns such as energy conservation , cycling , walking , electric mobility , and initiatives like “No Vehicle Friday” does not match the conduct of its leaders on the ground.

It alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu promotes messages of restraint and frugality , while sections of the administration engage in what the opposition calls high-visibility promotional activities that lack real substance.

The opposition also criticised what it described as staged displays of simplicity on social media, including symbolic train journeys by some ruling party representatives, calling them political optics rather than genuine practice.

Raising further objections, the party pointed to the public engagements of Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, claiming that large convoy movements and roadshows during a recent visit to Amadalavalasa disrupted normal public life, contradicting the government’s environmental messaging.

It further alleged that Minister Nara Lokesh continues to undertake frequent special aircraft travel and overseas visits, arguing that such activities reflect a disconnect between official calls for austerity and actual administrative conduct.

The YSR Congress Party maintained that the coalition government is prioritising image management over addressing ground-level issues, and said citizens are increasingly noticing the gap between public messaging and political practice.
