Indore based Auri Grow India Ltd has launched CarbonKrishi , an AI powered agritech platform designed to help Indian farmers generate carbon credits and earn extra income by adopting climate friendly and sustainable farming practices. The company plans to onboard around one lakh farmers, with potential annual carbon credit value estimated at Rs 16-50 crore, depending on verification outcomes and global prices. At a platform commission of 20-30%, this could translate to Rs 3–10 crore in revenue for the company.

Carbon credits are tradable certificates representing the reduction, removal or avoidance of one tonne of carbon dioxide . While industries such as power plants, cement and steel factories are the main emitters, farmers play a critical role in absorbing carbon. By improving soil health, reducing chemical fertilisers, managing crop residues, and adopting better practices, farmers can generate carbon credits without changing crops or selling land.

The platform uses technology , AI, satellite imagery, soil and crop data, to measure carbon absorption and emission reductions at the farm level. Verified by independent agencies such as Verra or Gold Standard, these credits are certified and sold to industries needing to offset emissions.

At the international level, carbon trading is supported under the Paris Agreement (Article 6), which allows countries to cooperate through market-based mechanisms, including the transfer of carbon credits. In India, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), functioning under the Ministry of Power , is developing a domestic carbon market through the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) , aimed at creating a structured system for issuing and trading carbon credits in line with global standards. The scheme is designed to incentivise emission reductions across sectors while enabling verified credits to be traded transparently. Platforms such as CarbonKrishi operationalise these mechanisms on the ground, connecting small and marginal farmers to organised carbon markets and linking them with global buyers.

For farmers, carbon credits offer additional income without extra crops or land. By adopting sustainable practices, they not only earn money when industries buy verified credits but also improve soil health, reduce fertilizer costs, and enhance crop yields. The platform acts as a bridge, handling complex tasks such as data collection, verification, certification, and market access, so farmers can focus on farming. This model shows how private technology-driven solutions can reward climate-positive actions, turning environmental responsibility into tangible economic benefits for rural communities.

A key challenge remains limited digital literacy among farmers, as carbon credit participation requires data collection and digital reporting. Auri Grow India plans assisted onboarding, simplified digital tools, and on ground support to ensure farmers can participate fully.

Pratik Kumar Patel , Director of Auri Grow India Ltd, said the platform empowers farmers with additional income while integrating Indian agriculture into the global carbon credit ecosystem. CarbonKrishi demonstrates how technology and private participation can turn climate solutions into practical, economically rewarding opportunities for farmers.
