ATP Delhi Open: Sureshkumar shines, Karan Singh goes down in three‑set thriller
The ATP Delhi Open 2026 officially kicked off its main singles draw today at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi, delivering an exciting mix of competitive matches, thrilling rallies, and standout performances from both Indian players and international stars.
Indian tennis fans had reason to cheer as Manish Sureshkumar completed an impressive run in the qualifying rounds to secure a place in the main draw. Sureshkumar defeated South Korea’s Uisung Park 6‑3, 7‑5 , demonstrating composure, strong groundstrokes, and tactical awareness. Having entered the qualifying draw at the last minute, the 26-year-old made the most of his opportunity, marking himself as a player to watch in the coming rounds.
Meanwhile, another Indian hopeful, Ramkumar Ramanathan , faced a tough challenge against former top-50 player Hyeon Chung of South Korea. Despite a competitive effort, Ramanathan fell 2‑6, 2‑6, ending his campaign before the main draw could begin.
The day also brought disappointment for Karan Singh , who had received a wildcard into the main draw in recognition of his recent Davis Cup performances. Singh battled hard against Poland’s seventh seed Daniel Michalski , winning the first set but eventually losing 6‑7(5), 6‑5, 3‑6 in a tightly contested three-set thriller. His spirited fight, however, underscored the growing depth and resilience of Indian tennis players.
International players were also on display, with Oliver Crawford of Great Britain advancing past Croatia’s Duje Ajdukovic 7‑6(7), 7‑5 in a tightly fought match. Belgium’s Michael Geerts recorded a straight-sets victory over Lithuania’s Edas Butvilas 6‑3, 7‑5 , highlighting the strong competition in the tournament.
Monday’s action sets the stage for the next phase of the Delhi Open. With the first round now complete, Tuesday promises more high-stakes encounters , including the participation of India’s top-ranked singles player Sumit Nagal . Doubles competitions also get underway in the coming days, adding further excitement to the ATP Challenger 75 event, which continues through 22 February .
Fans can look forward to a week filled with gripping baseline rallies, intense tie-breaks, and potential breakthroughs from both seasoned stars and rising Indian talent, making this year’s Delhi Open a tournament not to be missed.
