At least 10 injured in multiple stabbing on train in Cambridgeshire, two arrested

At least 10 people were hurt after a stabbing incident on a train in Cambridgeshire, East England, on Saturday evening. According to British Transport Police (BTP), nine of the victims have life-threatening injuries.

Police have declared a major incident and said two suspects have been arrested. Counter Terrorism Policing teams are helping with the investigation.

The attack happened on the 6:25 PM train from Doncaster to London King’s Cross. The train was stopped at Huntingdon, where police and emergency services quickly responded.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), BTP said: “Ten people have been taken to the hospital following a multiple stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire. Nine are believed to have life-threatening injuries. A major incident has been declared, and Counter Terrorism Policing are supporting our investigation.”

BTP Chief Superintendent Chris Casey called the event “shocking” and said his thoughts are with the victims and their families. He added that officers are still working to understand what happened and that it is too early to say what caused the attack.

Police operations are ongoing at Huntingdon station, with cordons and road closures in place. Train services through the area are currently stopped.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “appalling” and thanked emergency services for their quick response. “The appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is deeply concerning. My thoughts are with all those affected,” he said on X.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood also said she was “deeply saddened” and is receiving regular updates on the situation. “My thoughts go out to all those affected. Two suspects have been arrested and taken into custody,” she wrote.

Police have asked the public to stay away from the area and avoid spreading rumors while the investigation continues.
