Delhi recorded its warmest May night in nearly 14 years on Monday as the minimum temperature settled at 32.4 degrees Celsius , according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The temperature was 5.7 degrees above normal , making it one of the hottest nights experienced in the capital in recent years.

The IMD said the last time Delhi recorded a hotter May night was on May 26, 2012, when the minimum temperature touched 32.5 degrees Celsius. Earlier this month, the city had also witnessed unusually warm nights, with the mercury settling at 31.9 degrees Celsius on May 21.

Several weather stations across Delhi reported temperatures significantly above seasonal averages. Palam recorded 30.5 degrees Celsius, Lodi Road 30 degrees Celsius, Ridge 30.6 degrees Celsius and Ayanagar 32 degrees Celsius. IMD officials confirmed that warm night conditions prevailed at Safdarjung, Lodi Road and Ayanagar.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions , warning that maximum temperatures may hover between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius over the next few days. Heatwave conditions are expected to persist till May 28.

The IMD has also forecast dust storms, gusty winds and chances of light rain or thunderstorms later this week, though officials said these are unlikely to provide major relief.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 206 on Monday morning, placing it in the “poor” category, following mild dust storms on Sunday evening.
