Assam’s New BJP-Led NDA Government to Take Oath on May 12, PM Modi Likely to Attend

The swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected BJP-led NDA government in Assam will be held on May 12 at the Veterinary Field in Khanapara , Chief Secretary Ravi Kota said on Thursday.

The event is expected to witness the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , along with several Union ministers , chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, and representatives from the industry sector.

Officials said arrangements are being made on a large scale in view of the high-profile attendance. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota reviewed the preparations in a meeting with the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam , focusing on security deployment, traffic management, venue readiness, protocol arrangements, and inter-departmental coordination .

Emphasising the importance of the event, Kota said strict adherence to protocol and seamless coordination among all departments has been directed to ensure the ceremony is conducted smoothly and securely . All concerned agencies have been instructed to maintain the highest level of preparedness given the expected turnout of national and state-level dignitaries.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has submitted his resignation to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya . He has been asked to continue as head of the caretaker government until the new council of ministers is sworn in.

Union Minister J. P. Nadda and Naib Singh Saini have been appointed as observer and co-observer for the election of the BJP Legislature Party leader, which is likely to take place on May 10 .

The ruling NDA has returned to power in Assam for a third consecutive term , securing 102 of the 126 assembly seats . The BJP won 82 seats , while its allies the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) secured 10 seats each .

The swearing-in is expected to be a major political event, marking the formal beginning of the new government’s term in the state.
