Assam is preparing to welcome wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers as its iconic national parks and sanctuaries gradually reopen for the new tourism season following the monsoon.

The season will begin with the reopening of Manas National Park on October 2, followed by Kaziranga National Park on October 3 and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary on October 13, according to officials.

The Chief Minister’s Office said the reopening of the three major wildlife destinations would allow visitors to once again experience Assam’s rich natural landscapes and biodiversity.

With the monsoon retreating, preparations are under way across the forest department to receive tourists and resume regular wildlife tourism activities. The reopening also marks the return of one of the state’s major attractions for visitors looking to explore its forests, grasslands and diverse wildlife.

Environment and Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said Assam was ready for another tourism season and invited wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers and travellers from across India and abroad to explore the state’s biodiversity.

“As our parks and sanctuaries reopen their gates,” Baruah said, Assam was ready to welcome visitors to experience its extraordinary natural wealth.

The staggered reopening of the parks comes as the state moves into the post-monsoon tourism period, when its wildlife destinations once again become accessible to visitors.

Manas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its diverse wildlife and landscapes along the foothills of the Himalayas. Kaziranga remains one of Assam’s most prominent wildlife destinations, particularly known for its population of the greater one-horned rhinoceros, while Pobitora is another popular destination for wildlife tourism.

Forest department teams are currently making arrangements ahead of the reopening, officials said, setting the stage for another season of wildlife tourism in Assam.
