Assam Student’s Death in Andhra: SIT Probes Train Journey
Andhra Pradesh Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death of Assam student Himsri Boro, whose body was found near railway tracks in Srikakulam district on October 7, an official release said.
Boro, a BBA student in Guwahati, arrived in Visakhapatnam on August 16 with a 10-member dance group. Five members had returned to Assam, while the others remained in Andhra Pradesh, the release said.
Police said Boro tried to return to Assam on October 6 but missed the Silchar Express. She stayed at the station and later boarded the delayed Vivek Express, which arrived at about 1.30 am on October 7.
According to police, Boro boarded the moving train at around 2.39 am. She later called her friend and reported that some boys were misbehaving with her before the call disconnected. The friend alerted a classmate, who lodged a complaint through Railway Helpline 139.
When the train reached Srikakulam Road station at 3.56 am, railway personnel searched the coach but could not locate Boro. An alert was sent to other stations, including Palasa. Railway police later searched the train and recovered her luggage from the S2 coach.
A co-passenger reportedly told police that Boro had fallen from the moving train. Her body was found near Penubarthi village, along the tracks between Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Road, the release said. A post-mortem examination has been conducted, but officials have not publicly disclosed a final finding on the cause and manner of death.
The Srikakulam Superintendent of Police and SIT visited the site. Regional Forensic Science Laboratory personnel, a clues team, dog squads and drone units examined the scene and tracks for evidence. Investigators are continuing enquiries into the events before and after Boro disappeared from the train.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sought a time-bound inquiry from Andhra Pradesh and railway authorities. Boro’s family has raised suspicions about her death. Police have not announced a final conclusion, and the investigation remains ongoing.
