Assam Steps Up Illegal Immigration Checks, 21 Alleged Infiltrators Identified

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that 21 alleged illegal migrants have been identified by Assam Police, with necessary action initiated against them as part of the state government’s continued efforts to curb illegal immigration.

In a post on social media platform X, Sarma said the individuals had attempted to stay in Assam illegally but were detected by the state police. Referring to the Hindi spy film Dhurandhar, the Chief Minister remarked, “ Not everyone is a Dhurandhar, especially in Assam,” while praising Assam Police for identifying the alleged infiltrators.

“21 illegal infiltrators tested their mettle to survive illegally in Assam but were promptly identified by the OGs in the game Assam Police and appropriate action was initiated to neutralise the threat they posed,” Sarma said.

However, the Chief Minister did not provide details about the locations where the individuals were identified, their nationalities, or the specific legal action taken against them.

The latest announcement comes amid the Assam government’s ongoing campaign against illegal migration. According to government data presented in the state Assembly recently, nearly 2,100 illegal foreigners have been deported, expelled, or sent back to their respective countries over the past decade.

Of these, 2,023 individuals were identified as Bangladeshi nationals, according to the government’s figures. Authorities have maintained that preventing illegal entry and ensuring the detection of undocumented foreigners remain key priorities for the state.

The issue of illegal immigration has remained a major political and administrative concern in Assam, with successive governments focusing on border management, verification drives, and legal action against those found staying without valid documents.
