Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has revealed that the state has held early discussions about inviting global star Shakira to perform in Guwahati next year, expressing his personal interest in bringing the pop icon to the city. He said Shakira’s worldwide hit “Waka Waka” inspired the idea and noted that although an earlier opportunity in February was missed, he still hopes to see her perform in Assam. Sarma added that he aims to bring major international artists not only to Guwahati but also to Dibrugarh and Silchar, emphasising that such global events would significantly boost tourism, hotels, transport and the state’s overall economy. He reiterated that Guwahati will emerge as a major concert hub within the next two to three years.

This vision gained renewed momentum after Post Malone delivered his first-ever solo concert in India on yesterday in Guwahati.
