The 2025 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Customer Experience Awards , announced by the Airports Council International , have highlighted several Indian airports for their passenger experience, particularly in the departures and arrivals categories.

In the departures category for airports handling 5 to 15 million passengers annually , Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow featured among the best globally. Meanwhile, in the arrivals category , India had a strong presence with Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru , Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad , and Mangaluru International Airport making the global list.

However, no Indian airport featured in the “Cleanest Airport” category , where airports from regions such as Asia-Pacific, Europe and Africa dominated the winners’ list.

The ASQ awards are different from many global rankings. They are not decided by panels of judges , but are based on data collected directly from passengers through real-time surveys conducted at airports . Travellers voluntarily fill out questionnaires about their experience covering aspects such as comfort, service, facilities and overall journey quality.

While the awards provide a useful snapshot of passenger satisfaction, they must also be taken with a pinch of salt , as only a small fraction of travellers typically participate in these surveys. Even so, the recognition offers airports an indication of how passengers perceive their services and provides some measure of global benchmarking.

For Indian airports, the presence of Lucknow in departures and Bengaluru and Hyderabad in arrivals suggests improving passenger experience in key operational areas, even if the country’s airports are yet to feature among the world’s cleanest.
