Asia Cup 2026: India’s archers sweep medals with Kamboj, Jawkar, Chauhan stealing the show
India’s archery contingent turned in a superb all-round performance at the Asia Cup 2026 Stage I in Bangkok, the first major outdoor continental tournament of the season, finishing with a rich haul of medals across compound and recurve events.
The headline of the campaign was an emphatic Indian sweep in the men’s individual compound event . Uday Kamboj triumphed in a thrilling final by edging past fellow Indian Prathamesh Jawkar 145‑144, marking a high‑intensity duel between the country’s top compound shooters. Rajat Chauhan completed the podium, clinching bronze with another 145‑144 win in his medal match.
India also continued its dominance in team formats. The compound mixed team duo of Chikitha Taniparthi and Rajat Chauhan secured gold with a strong 158‑156 win over Malaysia, underlining India’s consistency in Olympic‑recognised mixed competitions. Tejal Salve , on the women’s side, backed up her earlier success with a gold medal in the individual women’s compound category, showcasing her precision and composure under pressure.
In the compound women’s team final, the Indian trio of Chikitha Taniparthi, Raj Kaur and Tejal Salve fought hard but had to settle for silver after a narrow 227‑229 loss to Kazakhstan.
Recurve archers also contributed to India’s medal tally. Ridhi Phor produced a strong showing to finish with silver in the women’s individual recurve event, while the men’s recurve team , featuring Devaang Gupta, Sukhchain Singh and Juyel Sarkar , claimed silver after a tightly contested shoot‑off against seasoned Kazakhstan opponents.
Earlier in the competition, India had also bagged bronze medals in both the men’s compound team event and the women’s recurve team event , rounding off a robust performance in Bangkok.
With world ranking points on offer and the outdoor season just underway, capped by major events like the Asian Games later this year, India’s strong start in Bangkok has set a positive tone for the rest of the competitive calendar.
