Arya blasts, Iyer finishes, Punjab Kings swat SRH aside by 6 wickets

Punjab Kings produced a breathtaking display of power hitting at Mohali on Saturday, chasing down Sunrisers Hyderabad’s imposing 219 with six wickets to spare and more than an over remaining, underlining their title credentials in emphatic fashion.

SRH came out swinging, with Abhishek Sharma setting the tone in the opening powerplay, a blistering 74 off just 28 balls that included eight sixes. Travis Head chipped in with a rapid 38, as the two put on a 120 run opening stand that threatened to push the total beyond reach. Ishan Kishan added a handy 27, and despite the middle order not firing consistently, SRH posted 219/6 , a score that would have intimidated most sides.

But Punjab had other ideas. Priyansh Arya came out blazing, hammering 57 off 20 balls , a stunning effort laced with five sixes, as Punjab raced to 99 in the opening six overs for the first wicket. When he fell, Prabhsimran Singh continued the assault, top scoring with a belligerent 51. The chase was never truly in doubt.

The real knockout punch came from skipper Shreyas Iyer, who walked in at a crucial moment and played a captain’s knock, an unbeaten 69 off 33 balls , studded with five sixes and four fours. His composure amid the fireworks ensured Punjab crossed the line in just 18.5 overs with the score reading 223/4 .

For SRH, debutant spinner Shivang Kumar was the lone bright spot with three wickets, but the rest of the bowling attack looked toothless against Punjab’s marauding batters. With this six wicket win, Punjab Kings send a loud message to the rest of the IPL field, they mean serious business this season.
