‘Arundhati’ Hindi remake in the works!

Bollywood is gearing up for another big remake from veteran producer Allu Aravind, who earlier created a sensation with Ghajini starring Aamir Khan. This time, the ace producer is bringing back the Telugu blockbuster ‘Arundhati’ to life in Hindi. The 2009 horror-thriller, which became a milestone in Telugu cinema, is being adapted with a fresh touch for the Hindi audience.

According to reports, Sreeleela, the young sensation who recently scored hits with Guntur Kaaram and Dhamaka , will play the titular role made iconic by Anushka Shetty in the original. Industry buzz suggests that the remake will feature several tweaks in the script to suit the cultural sensibilities and cinematic tastes of the Hindi-speaking audience.

The project will be directed by Mohan Raja, known for helming Chiranjeevi’s Godfather . Shooting for the film is expected to begin in January 2026, and sources reveal that Sreeleela has already allotted bulk dates to this big-ticket Bollywood venture.

The original Arundhati (2009) was a pathbreaking supernatural thriller that redefined female-led storytelling in Telugu cinema. Anushka Shetty’s powerful performance as the brave warrior princess, alongside Sonu Sood’s chilling portrayal of the dark sorcerer Pasupathi, turned the film into a massive success and a cultural phenomenon. The film’s visual grandeur and emotional depth made it a timeless classic.

Sixteen years later, revisiting Arundhati marks a bold move especially at a time when the horror genre is once again finding strong traction in Bollywood. With films like Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 , Kajol’s Maa , Rashmika Mandanna’s Thaama , and Nushrratt Bharuccha’s Chhori expanding the space for women-led horror stories, Sreeleela now joins the league of leading ladies exploring supernatural cinema.
