Arunachal's Boleng Set to Host Asia's Biggest White-Water Rafting Championship This October

Arunachal Pradesh is preparing to make a splash on the international sporting stage as Boleng in Siang district gears up to host the Asian Rafting Championships 2026 from October 5 to 9, an event expected to boost both adventure sports and tourism in the northeastern state.

The prestigious five-day championship will bring together some of Asia's finest rafting athletes, who will compete on the challenging waters of the Simang River, a scenic tributary of the Siang River that flows through the picturesque Siang Valley.

With preparations gathering pace, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Ojing Tasing have held separate high-level meetings with sports administrators to review infrastructure, logistics and other arrangements needed for the successful conduct of the international event.

Sharing his enthusiasm, Khandu said the championship offers Arunachal Pradesh a unique opportunity to introduce its breathtaking rivers, untouched natural beauty, thrilling adventure sports potential and warm local hospitality to a global audience.

Minister Ojing Tasing, who represents Boleng in the state Assembly, also discussed administrative support and event planning with senior officials and sporting bodies. He described the championship as a landmark occasion that could firmly establish Arunachal Pradesh as one of Asia's leading destinations for white-water sports.

According to Tasing, the event will not only highlight the state's world-class river systems but also strengthen its growing reputation as an adventure tourism hotspot capable of hosting international competitions.

The Asian Rafting Championships are expected to attract athletes, officials, tourists and adventure enthusiasts from across the continent, providing a significant economic boost to the region while showcasing the rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh.

As excitement builds ahead of October, Boleng is preparing to welcome the continent's top paddlers for a spectacular contest on one of India's most scenic and challenging river stretches.
