Arunachal Governor calls for statewide lights-off drive for Earth Hour
KT Parnaik on Friday called upon residents of Arunachal Pradesh to actively participate in Earth Hour by switching off all non-essential lights for one hour on March 28 , from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
Marking two decades of the global environmental campaign, the Governor urged citizens to help create “The Biggest Hour for Earth” by joining the symbolic lights-off initiative. He stressed that collective participation can send a strong message about the urgency of environmental conservation and climate action.
In an official statement, Parnaik highlighted the importance of preserving natural ecosystems and safeguarding biodiversity, noting that these efforts are essential to reducing carbon emissions and adapting to the increasing impacts of climate change. He underscored that protecting nature is not only vital for ecological balance but also for ensuring a sustainable future.
Organised worldwide by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour is a global movement aimed at raising awareness about climate change, biodiversity loss, and the need for sustainable living practices. The initiative encourages individuals, communities, and institutions to turn off non-essential lights for one hour as a symbolic gesture of commitment to the planet.
The statement added that the annual event fosters unity and inspires meaningful conversations around environmental protection, urging people to take small but impactful steps towards safeguarding the Earth.
