The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved the establishment of a dedicated school for children with special needs in Miao, Changlang district, marking a significant step towards inclusive education in the state.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held in Miao, presided over by Chief Minister Pema Khandu. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring equity, compassion, and empowerment for all sections of society.

The proposed institution will function as a model centre for learning, healthcare, and empowerment, designed to provide equal access to quality education and holistic development opportunities for differently-abled children.

The education department has been directed to prepare a detailed proposal covering staff recruitment, infrastructure development, and other operational requirements to make the school functional at the earliest, the statement said.

Once established, the school is expected to serve as a pioneering model for inclusive education in Arunachal Pradesh, bridging existing gaps in accessibility, support, and specialised educational facilities for children with special needs, it added.
