Arun Govil Returns To Ramayana As King Dashrath, First Poster Sparks Nostalgia
Arun Govil is returning to the world of the Ramayana, this time as King Dashrath, in the first official poster of Namit Malhotra’s much-awaited two-part epic Ramayana: Rise of a Legend.
The poster presents Govil in an imposing royal avatar, seated on an elaborate throne and dressed in richly detailed traditional attire. His commanding appearance has already sparked excitement among fans, particularly because of the actor’s deep association with Lord Ram after his iconic portrayal of the deity in Ramanand Sagar’s television series Ramayan.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the new Ramayana is being mounted on an ambitious scale, with the makers promising a visually immersive interpretation of the ancient epic. The film is planned as a 3D experience and is expected to release in premium formats, including IMAX.
The cast brings together some of the biggest names in Indian cinema. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita, Yash takes on the role of Ravana, while Sunny Deol plays Hanuman. Govil’s casting as Dashrath adds another layer of nostalgia to the project, linking the new big-screen adaptation with one of the most remembered television portrayals of the epic.
The story is expected to explore the journey of Ram, his family and the events that ultimately shape the battle between good and evil. The scale of the project, along with its international visual-effects ambitions, has made it one of the most closely watched Indian films.
The poster comes as anticipation builds ahead of the film’s Diwali 2026 release window, with the first instalment expected in early November. For many viewers, however, Govil’s return may be among the most emotionally significant elements of the new Ramayana, a familiar face from one generation of the epic appearing in an entirely new cinematic retelling.
