Arsenal’s Winning Run Hits Six As Teenage Star Dowman Scores Twice, Tottenham Fall 3-1 At Liverpool

Arsenal continued their perfect start to the season as teenage sensation Max Dowman scored twice in a 4-2 victory over Ipswich Town in the third round of the English League Cup, while Tottenham Hotspur’s difficult campaign took another turn with a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool.

Arsenal made six changes to their usual lineup but still produced a dominant display against the fellow Premier League side. The victory extended their winning streak to six games across all competitions at the start of the season.

The biggest talking point was 16-year-old Dowman, who scored once in each half to underline his growing reputation. Noni Madueke and Mikel Merino also found the net as Arsenal raced into a 4-0 lead before Ipswich pulled two goals back.

Dowman, who last year became the youngest player to appear in the Champions League at 15 years and 308 days, earned praise from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who said the club must carefully manage the teenager's development while giving him opportunities to play.

Arsenal’s strength in depth is already giving Arteta options across several competitions, with the manager stressing that his players must approach every match with the same mentality and desire.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have endured a far tougher start despite spending around $400 million on new players during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool took control through goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo before Conor Gallagher pulled one back for Spurs with a 69th-minute header. Dominik Szoboszlai's powerful strike in stoppage time sealed Liverpool's victory.

Tottenham had 17 shots but struggled to make them count. Manager Roberto De Zerbi urged his players to shoot more often and improve their finishing.

The League Cup win over second-tier Charlton remains Tottenham’s only victory in six games this season. In the Premier League, Spurs have drawn twice and lost twice without scoring a goal.

Fulham and Brentford also progressed to the fourth round, beating West Ham 3-2 and Reading 2-1 respectively. More third-round matches are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
