Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that his side are “more convinced than ever” about their Premier League title chances , even after a narrow 2–1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The result marked Arsenal’s second consecutive league loss and their fourth defeat in six matches across all competitions , allowing City to close the gap to just three points with a game in hand . Pep Guardiola’s side, unbeaten in the league since January, continue to strengthen their position in the title race.

Despite the setback, Arteta remained upbeat, pointing to his team’s performance and mentality as reasons for belief.

“I believed a week ago, I believed on Wednesday, and I believe today,” Arteta said. “Because I see them every day and I know the level we have. Today, if they needed to be more convinced, they are now more convinced.”

Arsenal came close to changing the outcome, hitting the woodwork twice through Gabriel Magalhães and Eberechi Eze , while Kai Havertz missed a late header from close range.

Reflecting on the match, Arteta highlighted the fine margins that decided the contest. “We proved that we are there. In the two boxes , there was a difference, and that decided the game,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Arsenal boss dismissed any suggestion of panic, stressing the squad’s mentality in a crucial phase of the season.

“If I have to pick them up with five games to go, fighting for the title and in the Champions League semi finals, I should be at home,” he said. “It is not needed. We go again.”

Arsenal will next face Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on April 25, 2026, in the Premier League.
