Arsenal bounced back from their heavy defeat against Brighton with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday, as Riccardo Calafiori and Bruno Guimaraes scored their first goals at the Emirates Stadium.

The victory provided a perfect celebration for Mikel Arteta, who signed a contract extension earlier this week, and lifted the defending champions level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table. City face a challenging trip to Liverpool on Sunday.

Leeds frustrated Arsenal with disciplined defending and dangerous counterattacks before taking the lead in the 55th minute. Gabriel Gudmundsson's ball across the penalty area evaded goalkeeper David Raya and reached James Justin, who smashed it into the roof of the net.

Arsenal responded seven minutes later when Ben White headed a cross back into the danger area and Calafiori bundled the ball home from close range. It was the Italian defender's sixth goal for Arsenal since joining in 2024, but his first at the Emirates.

Arteta then introduced Guimaraes, Victor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber in a triple substitution. The changes quickly paid off as Arsenal completed their comeback in the 70th minute.

Following a quickly taken free-kick, Declan Rice set up Guimaraes outside the penalty area. The Brazilian midfielder fired a superb finish into the bottom-left corner, scoring his second goal for Arsenal since joining from Newcastle United in the offseason.

Elsewhere, Chelsea thrashed Bournemouth 5-1, with 36-year-old Jordan Henderson scoring twice to become the club's oldest English goalscorer. He opened the scoring after just 66 seconds and assisted Morgan Rogers' goal during Chelsea's explosive start.

Brighton strengthened their hold on third place with a 2-0 victory at Sunderland despite Pascal Struijk's second-half red card. Maxim De Cuyper and Jaouen Hadjam scored.

Fulham suffered a late collapse as Ipswich Town scored twice to secure a 2-1 win, while Brentford remained unbeaten after drawing 2-2 at Aston Villa.
