Security forces on Friday launched a comprehensive search operation in the border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir as part of heightened preparedness and surveillance measures in sensitive areas close to the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police and the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles in the Mendhar sector , a region that has witnessed increased security monitoring due to its proximity to the border.

According to officials, the search operation covered the forested areas of Sanjot, Chitibari, Savi Tarnai, and Tritpal Jaun Top , where troops conducted extensive combing and area domination exercises. Security personnel searched dense forest patches and strategically important routes to maintain vigil against any possible militant movement or infiltration attempts.

Officials said the exercise was part of routine but intensified counter-insurgency preparedness measures being undertaken in vulnerable border zones. Additional surveillance and patrolling have also been strengthened in the region to ensure security and maintain operational readiness.

The joint operation was continuing till the filing of this report, and no untoward incident had been reported so far, officials added.
