Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday issued a strong warning to Pakistan, saying Islamabad would have to decide “whether they want to be part of geography or history” if it continued to harbour terrorists and support activities against India.

The remarks were made during an interactive session titled ‘Sena Samwad’ , hosted by Uniform Unveiled at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, held in connection with the first anniversary commemorations of Operation Sindoor .

Responding to a question on how the Indian Army would react if circumstances similar to those that led to Operation Sindoor emerged again, Gen Dwivedi reiterated India’s uncompromising stance against cross-border terrorism.

“If Pakistan continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not,” the Army chief said during the interaction.

Though brief, the statement carried a sharp message amid continuing tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 last year following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. Under the operation, Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Pakistan subsequently launched retaliatory offensives, triggering an intense military confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours that lasted nearly 88 hours. India’s counter-operations were also conducted under Operation Sindoor.

The hostilities eventually came to a halt after both sides reached an understanding on the evening of May 10.

Gen Dwivedi’s remarks underscore India’s continued emphasis on a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and cross-border militant activity.
