Are Coalition MLAs Untouchable Under Law in AP? : Varudu Kalyani
YSR Congress Party Women’s Wing State President and MLC Varudu Kalyani strongly criticised the coalition government for failing to register a case even 24 hours after serious allegations were levelled by a woman employee against Janasena Railways Koduru MLA Arava Sridhar .
Addressing the media at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli , Kalyani said it was shocking that the police were backtracking despite the accused being identified and audio and video evidence coming out. She questioned whether laws apply differently to coalition MLAs , asking why no cases were being filed or action taken .
Why No Case Registered?
Kalyani said the rising atrocities against women raise serious doubts about the functioning of the police system . Despite the victim alleging rape and sexual harassment for one-and-a-half years with documented evidence , no FIR has been registered , which she termed government negligence . She said it was deeply unfortunate that there was no response despite a woman Home Minister .
Why a Party Committee?
She strongly objected to Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan appointing a party committee to look into the issue. When the state has police and courts , she asked, why a party inquiry? She alleged the move appeared to be a conspiracy to target the victim instead of the accused .
Is It Only Rhetoric?
Kalyani questioned the silence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu , who earlier warned that injustice to women would mark the government’s last day . She asked why Pawan Kalyan , who spoke about zero tolerance , was not taking responsibility when his own party MLA was accused. She criticised Home Minister Anita for her silence on women’s safety .
Action Against Minister’s Son Too
Referring to viral gambling videos involving a minister’s son , Kalyani said no action was taken . She recalled past incidents where complainants were booked instead of accused , alleging that coalition leaders and their families are misusing power .
Cases for Celebrations, Not for Crimes?
She questioned why cases were filed for Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s birthday celebrations , while no action was taken in crimes against women . She accused the government of harassing YSRCP leaders with false cases under the “Red Book Constitution.”
Demand for Immediate Action
Kalyani demanded immediate registration of a case and arrest of Arava Sridhar . She urged CM Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, Home Minister Anita, the Speaker, and the Women’s Commission to respond immediately , stressing that independent policing alone can prevent such crimes.
