AP’s Ambedkar study circle continues support for UPSC aspirants

The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Andhra Pradesh Study Circle’s annual free UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam coaching initiative continues to serve as an important support system for SC and ST youth in the state. For the 2025–26 session, the programme will select 340 candidates for fully residential coaching across Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati. Food, accommodation, and study support are provided entirely free of cost. This structure has remained stable over the years, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring equal access to UPSC preparation.

In 2023–24, the same 340-seat model was followed, with an approximate distribution of 120 seats each in Vijayawada and Tirupati, and about 100 seats in Visakhapatnam. The curriculum focused on General Studies, CSAT, weekly tests, and continuous mentoring. Similarly, in 2022–23, the intake remained around 340 candidates, with roughly 80% of seats reserved for SCs, 6% for STs, and the remaining seats allotted to BC, OC, and PwD categories. A fixed 33% reservation for women has been implemented each year to promote gender equity.

Success trends indicate that Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have shown consistent improvement in UPSC results. In 2017, 80 candidates from the two states were selected in the UPSC final list, marking a 20% rise compared to the previous year. Additionally, around 900 candidates from the region typically qualify for the UPSC Mains examination annually, reflecting strong participation and growing competitiveness.

At the national level, Ambedkar Centres and similar government-supported coaching programmes select nearly 2,000 SC students every year for UPSC preparation. Andhra Pradesh remains one of the top contributors to successful candidates, averaging about 61 selections as per recent data. This highlights the state’s strong performance and the impact of sustained coaching support.

The AP Study Circle’s coaching programme has remained consistent in its key features. It offers a four-month residential model starting in December, covering General Studies and CSAT, weekly tests, mentorship, and comprehensive study material. Admission is based on a competitive screening test, and the 33% reservation for women continues to expand opportunities for female aspirants.

Overall, the programme has shown stable trends since at least 2022, with continuous government investment helping SC and ST candidates improve their performance in one of India’s toughest examinations.
