US semiconductor equipment maker Applied Materials plans to invest USD 5 billion in India over the next decade under its India Vision 2035 programme, company President for Semiconductor Product Group Prabhu Raja said on Thursday.

Speaking at SEMICON India 2026, Raja said the investment would focus on accelerating and integrating India’s green energy ecosystem into the global value chain. He said the programme would have three pillars: expanding R&D in India, accelerating the ecosystem and developing future talent.

As part of the plan, Applied Materials is committing to a new 140-acre advanced semiconductor research park. Raja said the facility would bring together cleanroom capabilities, engineering expertise and collaborative R&D involving customers and suppliers at one site.

The company had ordered India’s first 300-millimetre lab in 2024. Raja said Applied Materials was among the first companies to establish a semiconductor engineering capability centre in India.

By 2035, the company aims to increase its India-based supply chain capacity tenfold, creating opportunities for Indian suppliers and bringing global suppliers to the country, according to Raja.

The company’s talent-development efforts are also part of the India Vision 2035 programme. Raja said India has a talent base that can contribute to advanced semiconductor activities with access to technology, laboratories and training.

Applied Materials has been expanding its presence in India through engineering and research capabilities. The company’s India operations support semiconductor-related activities and collaboration with customers and suppliers.

The proposed research park will bring research and engineering capabilities together with cleanroom infrastructure and collaborative development. The supply-chain target is aimed at increasing the company’s capacity in India over the coming years.

Raja said the company’s India Vision 2035 reflects its plans to expand research, ecosystem development and talent creation in the country. The investment announcement was made at SEMICON India 2026, which brings together companies and stakeholders from the semiconductor industry.

Applied Materials’ planned investment comes as India expands efforts to develop its semiconductor ecosystem, including research, manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities across the country further.
