Apple is reportedly preparing to launch three new iPad models, including the next-generation iPad Air, iPad Pro and entry-level iPad 12, during the first half of 2027, with significant upgrades to displays, processors, cooling technology and connectivity.

According to reports cited by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman and technology publications, the upcoming lineup is expected to bring notable improvements across Apple's tablet range.

The next-generation iPad Air is expected to feature an OLED display, replacing the LCD technology used in current models. The tablet could continue to be available in 11-inch and 13-inch variants, with a 60Hz refresh rate. It is also likely to be powered by Apple's M5 chip, although the processor details have not been officially confirmed. Samsung Display is expected to be a major supplier of the OLED panels.

The upcoming iPad Pro could introduce a vapour chamber cooling system to distribute heat more efficiently and maintain sustained performance during demanding activities such as gaming, video editing and AI processing. It is also expected to receive Apple's next-generation M6 chip, although some reports suggest the processor could be different.

Meanwhile, the entry-level iPad 12 is expected to receive an A19 chip and 8GB of RAM, compared with the A16 processor and 6GB RAM in its predecessor. These upgrades could enable Apple Intelligence support. The tablet may also include Apple's N1 networking chip, bringing Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread connectivity. Cellular variants could feature the power-efficient C1X modem, supporting sub-6GHz 5G networks.

The developments follow Apple's recent introduction of an OLED-equipped iPad mini, indicating its plans to expand OLED technology across its tablet portfolio.
