Apple Pay Goes Live on Razorpay for Domestic Payments in India
Razorpay has announced the launch of Apple Pay for online and in-store payments in India, enabling customers to complete eligible transactions without manually entering card details or waiting for SMS-based one-time passwords (OTPs).
The payment option is now live with thousands of businesses, including Zepto, Ixigo, IndiGo, Tata 1mg and JioMart, offering their eligible customers a faster payment option across online and physical shopping experiences.
Customers can select Apple Pay at checkout and authenticate transactions using Face ID, Touch ID or their device passcode. Apple Pay uses tokenised card credentials, ensuring the customer’s actual card number is not shared with the merchant. According to Razorpay, this adds a layer of security while reducing the number of steps required to complete a transaction.
The launch follows the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) September 2025 framework allowing payment ecosystem participants to adopt secure authentication methods beyond SMS OTPs. The framework came into effect in April 2026, paving the way for faster authentication at digital checkouts.
For businesses using Razorpay Standard Checkout, Apple Pay can be enabled without building a separate checkout flow, subject to applicable requirements. Razorpay said it securely routes transactions between Apple Pay, card networks and issuing banks before processing domestic payments after customer authorisation.
Razorpay COO Rahul Kothari said consumers increasingly expect quick and seamless payment experiences, adding that Apple Pay reduces friction while allowing businesses to use their existing Razorpay checkout infrastructure.
Apple Pay is supported across iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro, besides PCs through browsers such as Chrome and Firefox.
The launch expands Razorpay’s existing support for Apple Pay international transactions to domestic payments in India, further broadening its payment infrastructure for businesses.
Razorpay was founded in 2014 by IIT Roorkee alumni Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur and provides payment and business banking solutions to Indian businesses.
