Andhra Pradesh has recorded a significant milestone in its power sector as the state-run Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) achieved its highest-ever single-day thermal power generation. On March 11 , APGENCO’s thermal power stations collectively produced 6,160 MW of electricity, setting a new record in the corporation’s history.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu congratulated APGENCO officials, engineers and workers for their dedication and coordinated effort in achieving the milestone.

APGENCO currently operates three major coal-based thermal power stations with a combined installed capacity of 6,610 MW . These include the Dr Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station at Vijayawada with a capacity of 2,560 MW , the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station at Muddanur in Kadapa district with 1,650 MW , and the Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station at Krishnapatnam in Nellore district with 2,400 MW . Together, these three plants form the backbone of the state’s thermal power generation.

By generating 6,160 MW against the installed capacity of 6,610 MW , the corporation achieved an impressive 93.19 percent Plant Load Factor (PLF) , indicating operations close to maximum capacity. Energy sector experts note that such high utilisation across multiple large generating units is uncommon and reflects improved plant efficiency and better coordination in coal supply and operations .

Reacting to the achievement on the social media platform X , Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said the record output reflects the results of strategic reforms and measures implemented by the NDA government over the past 20 months to strengthen the power sector. He reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted and quality power supply to both industries and households across the state.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged the tireless efforts of APGENCO workers, field engineers and senior officials who worked around the clock to achieve the record generation. He said the government will continue to support initiatives aimed at boosting electricity generation and strengthening the state’s power infrastructure in the coming years.
