AP Women’s Commission to Hold Mahila Jan Sunwai in Nellore Today
In an effort to bring grievance redressal mechanisms closer to women and ensure quicker intervention in sensitive cases, the Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission will conduct a ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai’ public hearing in Nellore on Monday. The initiative will be led by Commission Chairperson Rayapati Shailaja , who will interact directly with women and listen to their complaints.
The public hearing will take place at the District Parishad meeting hall in the city from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The programme is being organised as part of a special outreach drive following guidelines issued by the National Commission for Women , aimed at strengthening access to justice for women at the grassroots level.
During the session, women from across Nellore district will be able to present grievances related to harassment, domestic violence, property disputes, and other social or legal concerns affecting their lives. Officials said the programme has been designed with a single agenda—addressing women’s issues and ensuring timely solutions .
Representatives from the police, revenue, and other government departments will also attend the hearing to facilitate immediate examination of complaints. By bringing multiple departments together under one platform, the Commission hopes to analyse cases at the field level and help victims receive swift relief and justice .
Chairperson Rayapati Shailaja called upon women facing difficulties to come forward and make use of the opportunity. She particularly encouraged those whose grievances have remained pending for a long time or complaints that could not be resolved at the local police station level to present their cases during the hearing.
She assured that the Women’s Commission remains firmly committed to protecting women and upholding their rights . By organising such public hearings, the Commission aims to create a supportive environment where women can speak openly about their problems and seek institutional assistance without fear.
Officials expressed hope that the Mahila Jan Sunwai initiative will help strengthen trust between women and government institutions while ensuring that genuine complaints are addressed promptly and effectively.
