Andhra Pradesh is currently experiencing a striking contrast in weather conditions, with blistering temperatures scorching parts of the state while thunderstorms and rain bring temporary relief to others. The unusual combination of extreme heat, humidity, lightning, and rainfall has prompted authorities to issue fresh warnings and urge residents to remain cautious.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) said the state is witnessing highly variable weather patterns driven by changing atmospheric conditions. While several districts are grappling with temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius , cloud formations associated with an active weather system are triggering thunderstorms across parts of Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra.

According to APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain , the mixed weather pattern is likely to persist for the next few days. He warned that residents could face both severe heat stress and sudden thunderstorms, making it important to stay alert to changing weather conditions. People working outdoors, particularly farmers, labourers, and other field workers, have been advised to take extra precautions.

Meteorologists attribute the current situation to a trough extending from an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Vidarbha region towards the north coastal Andhra coast and the west-central Bay of Bengal . The system is creating atmospheric instability across large parts of the state, resulting in a combination of intense heating and rain-bearing cloud activity.

As a result, parts of Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, and Chittoor districts have been receiving light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning . Officials said similar weather activity could develop in other districts as well, with isolated showers and lightning strikes possible over the coming days.

At the same time, heatwave-like conditions continue to prevail across several regions. Temperatures ranging between 42°C and 44°C have been recorded in parts of Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Nellore districts. Authorities warned that prolonged exposure to such temperatures could increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and other heat-related illnesses.

Among the hottest locations in the state, Achampet in Palnadu district recorded a maximum temperature of 44.3°C , while Kavali in Nellore district registered 43.9°C . Meanwhile, districts including Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, East Godavari, West Godavari, Nandyal, YSR Kadapa, and Tirupati are expected to continue experiencing above-normal temperatures in the coming days.

In view of the evolving weather situation, APSDMA has advised people to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, stay adequately hydrated, and seek shelter in safe buildings whenever thunderstorms approach. Officials have also cautioned against standing under trees, electric poles, or large hoardings during lightning activity, stressing that public vigilance remains the best defence against the twin threats of extreme heat and severe weather .
