AP Unemployed Aspirants Seek 47-Year Age Limit for Group 1, 2 Exams

Unemployed aspirants seeking to appear for Group 1 and Group 2 examinations in Andhra Pradesh have appealed to former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to seek a one-time increase in the upper age limit from 44 to 47 years, citing prolonged gaps in government recruitment.

A delegation of candidates met Jagan at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli on Thursday under the leadership of party student wing state working president A. Ravichandra. The aspirants submitted a representation outlining the difficulties faced by candidates who have crossed the existing age limit due to the delayed and irregular release of government recruitment notifications.

The candidates said the recently announced Phase 2 job calendar provides only a two-year age relaxation, which they argued would still exclude a substantial number of unemployed aspirants from the recruitment process. They sought a one-time relaxation up to 47 years, particularly for Group 1 and Group 2 examinations.

According to the aspirants, the lack of regular recruitment notifications over several years has affected candidates who continued preparing for government jobs while waiting for opportunities. They pointed to the period between 2018 and 2026, during which notifications for Group 1, Group 2, DSC and other government posts were released only on a limited basis.

They said the government had increased the general upper age limit from 42 to 44 years, but maintained that this did not adequately address the difficulties of candidates who became overage because of prolonged gaps between recruitment drives.

The delegation also cited previous age-limit relaxations in Telangana, urging the Andhra Pradesh government to consider a similar one-time measure. They recalled that TDP leaders and graduate MLCs had earlier sought a 47-year age limit for unemployed aspirants when the retirement age of government employees was increased.

With the Group 1 notification issued on September 15, the candidates stressed the need for an early decision on the matter. They appealed to Jagan to take up the issue with the state government, saying the proposed relaxation could provide an opportunity to lakhs of unemployed aspirants who currently face age-related eligibility barriers.

Jagan responded positively to the representation and assured the candidates that he would examine their concerns and bring the issue to the government’s attention.
