A string of fatal bus accidents has prompted the state government to tighten enforcement against private operators violating safety norms. Acting on the directions of Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy , officials conducted surprise inspections across the state on Saturday .

A total of 1,036 buses were checked, with 236 buses found violating rules and booked with heavy penalties. The drive was carried out at 16 key points , including highways , toll plazas , and interstate borders .

Authorities examined essential documents such as fitness certificates, insurance, permits, and driver licenses. Vehicles operating without valid papers were seized, and strict action has been initiated against owners.

The move comes after four major accidents in six months claimed 45 lives , including incidents where buses caught fire, resulting in multiple fatalities. The government has ordered an inquiry and is focusing on preventing such tragedies by closely monitoring aging vehicles and those lacking fire safety equipment.

The minister warned that inspections will continue regularly and not be limited to a single drive. He cautioned operators against ignoring safety norms and urged the public to opt for safer transport options.
