AP to Announce Protective Economic Measures as Fuel, Import Concerns Grow
Amid growing concerns over the economic impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict , Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday announced that the state government is preparing a set of strategic measures to shield Andhra Pradesh from possible global disruptions. The measures, expected to be announced within the next two days, will focus on economic stability, energy security, and self-reliance as tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran continue to escalate.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a private medical college and skill development centre at Nidamarru village in Guntur district , Naidu said governments must remain prepared for international uncertainties that could impact fuel prices, imports, and foreign exchange reserves. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for savings and responsible spending, the Chief Minister urged citizens to avoid unnecessary gold purchases and non-essential foreign travel to help conserve foreign exchange.
In a major announcement, Naidu revealed that the Jonnagiri Gold Project in Kurnool district is likely to begin operations in June. The project, considered one of India’s first major private-sector gold mining ventures in decades, is expected to significantly boost domestic gold production and reduce dependence on imports. He noted that India spends enormous foreign exchange on importing gold and crude oil, making the economy vulnerable during global crises.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to reduce petrol and diesel consumption by accelerating the shift towards green energy . He encouraged households and farmers to install rooftop solar systems and adopt renewable energy solutions. According to Naidu, increasing work-from-home and digital work models in the future could also help reduce fuel consumption.
Reiterating his vision for Amaravati , Naidu said the capital city would emerge as a global technology hub. He announced that India’s first quantum computing ecosystem is expected to be established in Amaravati by December 2026 under the proposed Quantum Valley initiative . Plans for a 190-kilometre Outer Ring Road, additional bridges across the Krishna River, and multiple flyovers were also highlighted.
Naidu further directed officials to accelerate work on major projects, including the proposed Google Data Center in Visakhapatnam and the ArcelorMittal project . He also urged youth to acquire foreign language skills and prepare for growing international demand in healthcare and paramedical sectors while expanding digital healthcare services through the government’s ‘Sanjeevani’ platform .
