AP sets target to build 17 lakh homes in the next three years

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has set an ambitious target of constructing over 1.7 million homes in the next three years, as part of the state’s ongoing housing program. The CM instructed officials from Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and the Housing Department to accelerate efforts and ensure that mass house handovers are conducted every three months.

Already, more than 300,000 homes have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries under the state’s “Housing for All” initiative. Speaking at a review meeting at the Secretariat on Friday, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to maintain the pace, saying, “We promised ‘Housing for All’ in the elections, and over 300,000 homes have already been delivered. But this is just the beginning. We must continue with greater speed and aim to complete the program by January 2029.”

Chandrababu Naidu outlined that of the overall target of 2 million homes set by the previous coalition government, 300,000 are already completed, leaving 1.7 million homes to be finished in the next three years. He added that the next Ugadi festival should see the mass handover of 500,000 homes. He urged all officials, from senior to field-level staff, to take responsibility and ensure timely progress.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of public satisfaction, stating, “We are conducting surveys to identify eligible beneficiaries beyond those already selected. These lists should be finalized quickly and displayed village-wise. Every update on housing construction should be available online. If any beneficiary requests land, it should be provided, and those with land should receive position certificates.”

Special attention will continue to be given to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) communities under the PMAY 1.0 scheme. Additionally, a support package of ₹50,000 will now be provided to 18,000 Muslim minority beneficiaries, requiring ₹90 crore in total. Officials have been instructed to clearly communicate these benefits to the respective communities.

The CM also directed officials to address pending bills from earlier housing schemes. “During 2014-19, pending bills under the NTR Rural Housing Scheme and some National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) projects were stalled by the previous government. We have streamlined the process for clearing these bills, and the same needs to be done for the pending NTR Rural Housing payments,” he said.

In the review, officials reported that 800,000 homes were built between 2014-19 and 580,000 homes between 2019-24. The meeting was attended by Minister Kolusu Parthasaradhi and senior officials from TIDCO and the Housing Department.
