AP Releases Draft Electoral Roll After Special Revision, 15.22 Lakh Voter Records Removed

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday published the draft electoral roll for Andhra Pradesh following the completion of the enumeration process under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state's voter list.

According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Andhra Pradesh, the state had 4,16,27,694 registered electors, of whom 3,71,38,182 voters (89.22%) submitted their enumeration forms during the exercise conducted between June 15 and July 24.

As part of the revision, the Election Commission identified 15.22 lakh voter records (3.66%) belonging to deceased individuals, which have been removed from the draft roll. In addition, 22.30 lakh voters (5.35%) were marked for revision after being found to have permanently shifted residence, remained unavailable during verification, or become ineligible for other reasons.

The Commission also detected 7.37 lakh duplicate voter registrations (1.77%) across multiple constituencies. It clarified that, in accordance with electoral rules, an individual can remain enrolled as a voter in only one constituency, and duplicate entries will be deleted.

The ECI further stated that the draft roll also reflects the exclusion of individuals who could not be traced by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), those who have registered as voters in other states or Union Territories, those who failed to submit enumeration forms by July 24, and those who voluntarily chose not to participate in the revision process.

The Commission has opened the claims and objections window from July 31 to August 30. Eligible citizens who could not submit their enumeration forms during the initial exercise can still apply for inclusion in the electoral roll by filing Form-6 along with the prescribed declaration. Voters may also seek corrections to personal details or raise objections regarding the inclusion of ineligible names.

The Special Intensive Revision covered all 28 districts and 175 Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. The exercise involved 175 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 1,079 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), 4,650 BLO Supervisors, and 46,397 Booth Level Officers.

Political parties also played an active role in the revision by appointing 1,27,868 Booth Level Agents (BLAs). Among them, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) appointed 45,973 BLAs, followed by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) with 44,603, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with 27,583, and the Jana Sena Party with 8,988.

The Election Commission confirmed that the draft electoral rolls for all 175 Assembly constituencies have been published. After examining all claims and objections, the final electoral roll will be released on October 3.
