AP Plans to Make Araku a World-Class Coffee Destination
The Andhra Pradesh government is working to develop the Araku region into a world-class coffee destination, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said, underlining efforts to strengthen the Araku Coffee brand and expand its presence in global markets. He said the initiative would focus on supporting local coffee growers while establishing Andhra Pradesh as a distinctive name in the international coffee industry.
Speaking on the occasion of International Coffee Day, Naidu said the government was taking steps to build the Araku Coffee brand and create greater economic opportunities for farmers in the region. He said promoting the coffee brand globally would help provide greater recognition to the produce of tribal communities while also strengthening the state’s position in the international coffee market.
The Chief Minister said the government was making investments to transform Araku into a global coffee destination, combining its coffee-growing potential with the region’s natural landscape and unique identity. The initiative is aimed at giving Araku Coffee greater visibility among consumers and markets beyond India.
Naidu noted that coffee has become an integral part of the daily routine of millions of people across the world. Referring to his own morning routine, he said his day begins with a cup of coffee and that his first cup is Araku Coffee. He described the coffee as a reflection of Andhra Pradesh’s rich heritage and highlighted its growing recognition beyond the state.
On International Coffee Day, the Chief Minister recalled the journey of Araku Coffee from the green hills of Andhra Pradesh to coffee cups across the world. The coffee, cultivated in the tribal regions of the Araku Valley, has developed a distinctive identity based on its geographical origin and the communities involved in its production.
Tribal farmers in the Paderu region are among the primary cultivators of Araku Coffee. For these communities, coffee cultivation represents an important source of livelihood and an avenue for improving household incomes.
The government’s focus on branding and investment is therefore expected to link global market recognition with local farmer empowerment. By strengthening Araku Coffee as a premium regional brand, the state aims to create wider opportunities for producers while showcasing the coffee-growing heritage of the Araku hills to an international audience.
