AP Partners with AstraZeneca to Launch India's First Precision Oncology Ecosystem

In a major step towards transforming cancer care through technology, the Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AstraZeneca India to establish India's first Integrated Precision Oncology Ecosystem. The initiative seeks to revolutionise cancer diagnosis and treatment by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and advanced genomics into the state's public healthcare system, enabling earlier detection and more personalised treatment for patients.

According to the state government, the initiative will leverage the innovation capabilities of the Amaravati Quantum Valley to bring advanced technologies into public healthcare and strengthen cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment across the state. The collaboration aims to make precision oncology more accessible through government hospitals.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said AI, genomics and data science are reshaping healthcare worldwide, particularly in the early detection and treatment of diseases such as cancer. He said the government's vision is to ensure these cutting-edge technologies are available to every citizen through the public health system rather than remaining limited to specialised hospitals. He added that initiatives such as Sanjeevani, Real-Time Governance, and the Amaravati Quantum Valley are helping build a future-ready healthcare ecosystem.

As part of the partnership, government hospitals will deploy Qure.ai-powered AI chest X-ray technology to improve the early detection of lung cancer, enabling doctors to identify subtle abnormalities that may not be visible through conventional X-rays.

The collaboration will also establish an Integrated Genomic Solutions Centre (IGSC) to provide NGS-based biomarker testing for lung and breast cancer patients, supporting personalised treatment decisions. Additionally, district hospitals, medical colleges and specialised cancer centres will be connected through an integrated referral network and a Patient Navigation Framework, ensuring seamless care from screening and diagnosis to treatment. The government said the partnership combines AstraZeneca India's global expertise with Andhra Pradesh's technology-driven healthcare vision to position the state as a leader in precision medicine.
