The investigation into the alleged ₹3,500-crore liquor scam , reportedly committed during the previous government’s tenure , has intensified in the state. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) , which is probing the money-laundering angle of the case, has accelerated its investigation. As part of this process, Rajampet YSRCP MP P.V. Mithun Reddy appeared before ED officials on Friday.

After receiving notices under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) , Mithun Reddy arrived at the ED’s zonal office at the scheduled time. Officials questioned him at length regarding alleged irregularities in the liquor policy and diversion of funds , and recorded his statement. It may be recalled that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) earlier constituted by the state government had named Mithun Reddy as Accused No. 2 and arrested him in July 2025 . He is currently out on bail .

Meanwhile, in the same case, the ED questioned another key accused, Vijay Sai Reddy , on Thursday. The primary allegation is that illegal proceeds from the liquor business were routed to former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy through Vijay Sai Reddy. The ED is examining transactions carried out through shell companies in this connection.

The SIT has already filed three charge sheets , revealing what it described as shocking facts . According to the SIT, liquor syndicates allegedly collected illegal kickbacks ranging from ₹50 crore to ₹60 crore per month , with former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy named as a beneficiary . Although his name has not been included as an accused in the prosecution complaints so far, sources indicate that the investigation agencies are proceeding in that direction.

Reacting strongly to these developments, YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that the coalition government was targeting his party leaders out of political vendetta . He accused the government of misusing central investigation agencies to harass the opposition, calling it undemocratic . He maintained that the case was false and expressed confidence that justice would prevail in the courts.

Since the ED took over the case in September 2025 , a series of interrogations has triggered anxiety within YSRCP ranks . Speculation over the possibility of more arrests in the coming days has become a hot topic in political circles .
